Congressional Art Competition - Capitol Building // Washington DC , Keynote Speaker

It all began when I received a call from U.S. Representative Derek Kilmer of Washington's 6th Congressional District, inviting me to speak at the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. To say I was honored would be an understatement. I was humbled to serve as the keynote speaker at the 2022 Congressional Arts Competition, addressing the talented winners whose work embodies the future of visual arts.

The experience of flying into our nation's capital, not only as an artist but as one who was celebrated for pursuing a career in the arts, was deeply moving. To be able to share my journey with young, aspiring artists was an absolute privilege. It was a moment that reaffirmed the power of art to shape and inspire.

What brought me the greatest joy, however, was meeting so many gifted and passionate young individuals, brimming with excitement about their creative futures. After sharing my own experiences, I had the chance to connect with them personally, engaging in meaningful conversations that I hope will guide them as they embark on their own artistic journeys.

The Congressional Arts Competition is doing invaluable work to cultivate the next generation of artists, and I am proud to be an unwavering supporter of such a remarkable initiative.
