What if, for just one afternoon, Aretha Franklin found herself in Bremerton?
Song Bird imagines the Queen of Soul behind the wheel of a classic convertible, cruising down Pacific Avenue as the afternoon sun dances across storefront windows and the waters of Puget Sound sparkle nearby. Sailors wander the sidewalks, music drifts from open doorways, and the city moves to its own rhythm.
In this imagined moment, Aretha isn't performing for a crowd—she's simply taking in the spirit of a hardworking waterfront town. The ferry horns, laughter from local cafés, and the energy of Bremerton become part of an unseen soundtrack, blending seamlessly with the legacy of one of music's most powerful voices.
This painting is also a vision for the future. My hope is to bring Song Bird to life as a large-scale mural in downtown Bremerton, celebrating music, culture, and the creative energy that continues to shape our community. If this story resonates with you, I'd love your support in helping make this public art project a reality.
