It holds a light to the freedom fighters of the past, present, and future. King reminds me everyday that it is important to dream of a bright future and talk with your neighbor to breathe life into making dreams reality. “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” - MLK Jr. The background abstraction is created by collaging sentimental articles of found paper, such as, maps, sheet music and drawings created by my children. JFK (May 29, 1917 – November 22, 1963) The 35th president john Fitzgerald Kennedy By late 1960, Senator John F. Kennedy and his campaign team were eager to find a way to pull ahead in the final days of the presidential race. On October 19, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., along with students, was protesting local segregation ordinances in Georgia and was sent to jail for trespassing. King was sentenced to six months of hard labor for violating his probation on a previous misdemeanor. After hearing of King’s sentence, Senator Kennedy and his brother, Robert, called Georgia governor, Ernest Vandiver, and petitioned King’s release. Senator Kennedy called Coretta Scott King, MLK’s wife, to offer his help. Meanwhile, Robert Kennedy called the judge and was able to convince him to release King. The Kennedys’ role in King’s release quickly spread in the Black community. Senator John F. Kennedy won seventy percent of the Black vote in November. The Black vote was key in Kennedy’s victory.

Forever will the Kennedy family be a hero of mine for staying the course and helping others through tough times.
As I created this painting I was overwhelmed with emotion. As a father I hope to instill compassion and confidence into my children. Seattle Hero was created during a time the city was divided. Looters had begun smashing windows and riots were breaking out all over America after the public could stand no more police brutality towards African Americans. As I painted in my studio I prayed for the peaceful protesters in the streets and for the countless families affected by discrimination and injustices. I prayed for people of privilege would stand up and use their voices to speak out on behave of the smaller voices of the world!
